Gateway Fountains

The pictures explain it. A set of fountains that soak the kids. It's a lot of fun and it's free! They play music and the fountains dance. There is a food court in the upper level of the gateway to get lunch and the Front runner will drop you off right out front. It's located at 400 W 100 S. SLC, UT

You can take the kids on Front Runner. A family pass for four, for $13.50. Kids 5 and under are FREE!
Make sure your not a second late tho, because the conductor is rude and will leave you. Even if your right at the door when it closes. That's what happened to one of the mama's of the Monday play group. Jerks!

Fern Wood

FernWood
 Not to be confused with
FernGully
Hiking is always an inexpensive fun Activity. In Layton there is a nice Hiking trail for kids. There is not much shade but it's a pretty easy hike. The address is.
3333 Fernwood Park road. Layton, UT

You can get there by
Taking Highway 89 to Layton
Turn East on Cherry Lane
Turn East onto Fern Wood Drive
Follow Fern wood drive all the way up until you see a castle, go past the castle and you'll enter a parking lot.

The little back packers
What you should pack
Water
Snacks
(Beef jerky, granola bars, nuts, dried fruit or gummies,
crackers, etc things that won't melt)
Bug spray, a hat, a back pack, Sunblock. sun glasses, wet wipes, band aids, a camera

The Castle you'll spot at the beginning of the trail.
You could always fib and tell your lil princess that it's where Cinderella lives. :)

Every thing is really green an lively right now. It's also gorgeous in the fall when the leaves change colors. You just have to be careful of Rattle snakes.

Rattle Snake 101
Rattle snakes are more scared of you then you are of them.
If they hear you coming they'll usually move off the trail.
They don't generally strike unless you harass them.
Your pretty safe as long as you stick to the paved trail.
If you suffer a rattlesnake bite, seek medical attention as soon as possible.  Remain calm and immobilize the wound, keeping it below heart level.  Do not apply a tourniquet,(unless you can not get to a hospital, but if you do you could loose a limb) cut or suction the wound, and do not apply ice.

The boys made Guns from sticks. Great imaginations!
They found lots of Rollie pollies.
As well as other bugs, like huge bumble bees, buterfiles, dragonflies and Lizards.

There is small creek to cool the kids off in.

At the top of the trail you get to see a gorgeous view of the Valley.

Ogden Christmas Village

The day after Thanksgiving on 25th and Washington in Ogden Utah a Christmas village comes to life. It has a bunch of little Christmas Story houses, such as The Gringe, Hanzel and Grettle, The Elf workshop and even Santa's Castle. It's a fun little place to take the kids to see Christmas lights. Buddle up good tho, it can get pretty chilly!

They even have a mailbox for Santa Letters
And at 6pm Santa arrives at his castle to visit with the kids. They let you take your own picture or they'll take it for you for 5$. Although  just to warn ya not all kids think this is a fun idea:)

If you think your kids will do better with the sweet Mrs. Clause then you can go on a tour of Christmas village during the day. You have to go with a big sized group for this one at least 10 kids.
You can call 801-629-8000 to set up an appointment with Mrs. Clause
If you want to feed the kids while your there. There is a free trolley that picks you up at Christmas village  takes you around down town Ogden and will drop you off at the Junction where theres plenty of restaurants. It closes at 8pm on weeknights 9pm on weekends.

We rode the trolley and ate pizza at the Fat Cats bowling alley that sits over on 23rd street. They have the best bread sticks! Theres also a restaurant on the corner of Christmas village that does smores for the kids on weekend nights. We didn't make it there so I'm not sure of details on this one.

Ogden city offers a lot of fun stuff for kids to do. Christmas village is definitely worth checking out!
